Video 1 – Salon Column Builder Manual Walk Through
Welcome to Salon Column Builder. I have made these video’s so I could talk you through so that you understand basically where the concept comes from and give you a better understanding of the manual. Now, one thing I’d love you to do is to read it from cover to cover, so that you’ve got the whole picture. Rather than just scanning through and trying to pick out bits, read it from front to back so that you fully understand the system. Now, the whole concept and the idea behind Column Builder was to get a stylist busy within 12 weeks or less. Because, let’s face it, the minute a new person starts with you and they walk into the salon, they’re on the payroll. Even if you’ve got a stylist that’s been working with you for some time now and they’re not bringing in the money or they’re not busy, they’re costing you money. You’re taking your hard-earned cash out of your pocket and passing it over to that stylist. So, this manual was put together so that we had a system that you could implement within the business and get them busy really fast rather than sitting out in the staff room drinking your coffee.
In these videos I walk you through step-by-step how to implement the manual into your business. With and bonuses and ideas of how to get your columns fully booked in record time you will never have to worry about how to get new clients through the door again.
There are tons of ideas for building your salon business and to increase clients.

The Importance Of Keeping Your Salon Standards High
[x_video_embed type=”16:9″]
[/x_video_embed]
Getting and raising but more important KEEPING your salon standards high. That’s never easy of course. It takes cash. It takes effort.
It takes awareness. Bottom-line is this.
HOW does your client see your salon? You won’t know unless you ask them. Do you ask them? Do you have mystery clients coming in and giving you a report. It’s dead easy, it just takes a little effort on your part to keep things at a decent level. If you do one thing this week make it this … check your standards before you begin to lose clients and business! Sharpen your Standards Salon standards this is the key to a successful, well-run business.
Communication with your team at all levels is the most important skill in the Salon. We spend hours of training with our team coloring, cutting, retailing, customer care but when did you last do some in-depth training with communication.
Many say that its 50% communication and 50% hairdressing skills to be a fantastic hairdresser and I totally agree.
Teams need motivation, Salon owners need motivation! Hairdressing needs communication at all levels. A great way to reassess the Salon Standards is to do the client walk. Take your team outside the shop and pretend to be a client visiting the salon and take the route the client takes thru the salon. Look thru the windows of the salon what can they see. Dirty cups untidy mags, 15 people behind the reception desk, the receptionist reading Hello magazine? How are they greeted as they come into the salon can this be improved upon?
What happens at the consultation at the backwash the whole bit! When was the last time you had your haircut in a salon you are inspired by?
Salon Standards can be sharpened in a salon by good communication with your team and it most definitely does not have to be boring written down in long essays. Make it fun, highlight your salon problem areas in a light-hearted way, ask the team how they feel they would solve the problems.
I always ask my team if they were in a pub and they heard a client talking about the salon what would they love to hear and write these down then what would they HATE to hear!! and write those down. Then we have a discussion and make sure that we don’t perform in the HATE to hear list…. With careful guidance, you can revise your Salon Standards in a few fun staff meetings and improve your business and the bottom line.

The Marketing Files
Theses files are very basic in appearance, however, the reason for this is that we all have different skills on the computer, so I have made them as easy as possible to use. If you put the ideas into programs like photoshop and add images etc, then they will look fantastic. Make them your own.

Focus on Profit Video
It’s all very well getting clients through the door as long as your making good PROFIT!
Having worked with may of salons since 1995 I have come to realize that most make a very, very small amount of profit, or just break even!
In my experience, I have found that salon owners base their prices on what the “other salons in the area are charging” rather than looking at their overheads and making sure that they are making a profit on every service they do…
With that in mind, I made this video to help you really understand how the money comes in and out of the salon.
Take a look…

If you follow this matrix you will find it so much easier to teach somebody something new, whether it be a manager, stylist, receptionist or trainee. When you learn something new you go through a process of learning and in this video I take you through the process and then explain how sometimes you need to change your management style depending on where that person is on the Learning Cycle Matrix.

Stealth Marketing – by Jay Abraham
If you don’t yet know marketing guru Jay Abraham, brace yourself. His ideas are the Fantastic and can be used in any Salon.
Example: In his wonderful book Getting Everything You Can Out of All You’ve Got, Jay recalls working with a major ad agency that was trying unsuccessfully to contact a Fortune 500 CEO who was putting his firm’s account up for review.
Jay’s solution: The agency bought a cell phone with hundreds of minutes of prepaid airtime, and a special messenger delivered the phone to the CEO. As soon as the messenger called the ad agency to confirm delivery, Jay’s client dialled the phone’s number and got a valuable five-minute conversation with the CEO – eventually landing Jay’s client on the short list of agencies in the final review. Ka-ching!
